travelling babies

when nevaeh was born we would pride ourselves on our enthusiasm for going places with her. be it a restaurant or camping, she was out on the town from a very early age. backfired slightly since she now gets the itch to go out at least once day.... it may also be known that nevaeh has gone on a trip to victoria every year for the past three years. this year old and dear friend daniel warder got married so lua and i packed off and headed west with naima. we figured nevaeh would be moving there soon enough, so she stayed home for some daddy-daughter time.
other than seeing the new place, we got to see old friends and whet our appetites for bc living. naima was a dream traveller, like her sister. for almost the whole time flying she just sat with me, looked out the window or at our neighbours, and chewed her fingers.
speaking of chewing- we noticed that naima was drooling excessively and chewing frantically (zombie-like even) on any piece of skin unlucky enough to get close enough. after she was crying and crying like this i took a look and sure enough, there are the shadows of her first teeth. thank god for homeopathy. we found some pain relief and she was her cheery self again (drool and chewing included).

missed nevaeh dearly. best feeling in the world was coming off of the escalators into her little arms and having her hug me extra long. and saying, "mommy! i missed you so, so much." first things she told me about were scraping her knee and have her best friend (and cousin) jurnee make it "ok", and going to play at flip (gymnastics) with daddy.
this morning when we woke up naima was crying a bit, and nevaeh jumped right in to be the comforting big sister. she first told me that the reason naima was crying because she needed a hug from james (nevaeh's favourite friend, who started out as our friend). she then turned to naima to tell her, "it's okay baby, you find your james."
like i said she's learning. i left them alone on nevaeh's bed for a few minutes in the afternoon only to run back to naima's crying- nevaeh was log rolling the bed with her in her arms. oops. i guess we're all learning.
later this evening farideh came over with her brother pete and his girlfriend ruby. naima had been crying, a bit sensitive to nevaeh since this afternoon. i told nevaeh that naima was probably mad at her still from their roll in the bed. well, she then wanted to say sorry to naima, so she turned to her to say "i'm so sorry baby." and sealed with a sweet kiss. that's what sisters are for i guess- beat each other up, brush each other off, and keep on playing.

  1. Well that is the sweetest story ever. Thanks for keeping a record like this. My time with you guys and Nevaeh and now Naima has been so wonderful; such a gift! It's my hope that many of the grown-ups in my life get to "find their Nevaeh", because it's pretty terrific.

  3. what i love about your babies is how much personality they have from such a young age! I remember nevaeh and her love of bold foods and music and its so wonderful to see naima having her own thoughts and ways of being including being mad at nevaeh for the whole log rolling incident~
