barney and dervish

this of course refers to the nicknames of my children.

naima we have deemed barney- short for barnacle- since we have discovered she is quite adept at attaching herself to the nearing sailing body. she is happiest on someone's hip, just bouncing along.

nevaeh's nickname was coined by our friend shawn moen, husband to my good friend jen. shawn and nevaeh have a rocky relationship, there's been laughter and there's been tears. but he gave her this nickname- derv for short- to honour her ability to sustain non-stop (but graceful) movement for extended periods of times. okay, maybe scratch the graceful part.

naima continues to astound us with her growing body and personality. she has very recently begun to eat solid food- starting her off with homemade brown rice cereal. it's messy business, but she loves to eat. she gets so excited when she eats that she rocks back and forth like some asylum victim. she also likes to try to feed herself, which usually ends in tears ("why won't this food get in my mouth???") she is close to sitting up on her own, and those two teeth we have seen the beginnings of 3 months ago have still not shown up. her hair is now so long i can put it in a little ponytail on top. she probably could also rock pigtails, but her bald spot at the back of her head becomes decidedly more noticeable.

nevaeh is really turning into this little kid. she has developed such an interest in friends that she has even asked to go to school. that'll wear off. her latest obsession are bakugan toys. these are a new generation of the pokeman toys of my time. essentially they are role playing games that have these little magnet sprung actions. she doesn't use the power cards, but she loves to sit and line them up and then ask me what their names are. speaking of toys she has suddenly discovered the purpose of commercials is to harass your parents for more stuff. she now gets excited at certain toy commercials and yells "i gotta got!" then starts putting her clothes on telling me she is going to the store.

we have just returned from a trip to victoria to visit my parents. seeing kokum and papa was great- nice to miss them and be reunited. nevaeh was close to hysterics on the plane when she suddenly realized we hadn't seen them for a few weeks, thankfully papa was waiting at the arrival gate. she was also quite upset on the plane home that we were flying away from her beloved grandparents, but was consoled that we would soon see auntie wah and uncle dylan.
i will post vic pics as soon as mike downloads them.

here's a quick vid of nevaeh pushing naima on the swing (she LOVES the swing) that i've been meaning to post. it's a bit outdated now, but still adorable.
